CPC Weekly - Delivering the Party, One Issue at a Time

After two weeks of Spring Break insanity we are finally back with all of the juicy footage and details. In this week's issue: check out a review of the drunken debauchery that went on in Panama City Beach. Be sure to view the photo gallery and peek at some of the hottest raw beach party photos to date. Special thanks to the incredible accommodations provided by Rockstar Energy Drink & Axe Body Spray.

Just as the Spring Break krunk-ness was dying down, Friday came along and pinched the liver with 24 hours of the most intense drinking Holiday of the year, St. Patrick’s Day 2006. CPC Members, along with hundreds of locals and other college students, flocked to the Tennessee Strip. Just in case you missed it, we're providing you with a full recap and aftermath of the event in this issue.

CPC On Location: Spring Break 2006 - Panama City Beach, Florida

Written by Michael Gale

Words can hardly explain the experience Panama City Beach created for all the wild Spring Breakers. From wet t-shirt contests, crazy hotel parties and concerts at the MTV U Village, Panama City Beach has my vote for the best Spring Break Destination.

Once our crew arrived in Panama City Beach we realized hospitality was the number one word in the hotel staff’s vocabulary. Axe Body Spray and Venus teamed up and put out Spring Break Survival Packs for all Spring Breakers, which contained Axe Dry Deodorant, AXE Shower gel, BIC Razor, candy, and coupons for various kinds of companies. Fanta, Coke-a-Cola’s tropical soda, also provided Spring Breakers with free beverages to beat the sweltering sun.

Event Aftermath: St. Patty's Day 2006 @ The Irish Pub

Written by Ryan Egleston

Friday March 17, the commencement of what I think is one of the few great international holidays began. The scene: hordes of die-hard college students emerging out of the morning fog with one thing in mind: BEER. Friday morning the truly dedicated collegiate bodies lined up at the Tennessee strips’ own little part of Ireland, The Irish Pub. I was one of these few brave souls that decided to test how long you would have to actually drink on St. Patty’s day to truly feel Irish blood coarse through your veins (I went for fourteen hours). This I am proud to say was one of the best St. Patty’s days I've seen in Tallahassee in a long time.

Hundreds of people paced the area of the Irish pub enjoying the green beer, Irish car bombs, and of course the ancient Irish game of beer pong. If you weren't there, put the powder on your hand and smack yourself, because you don't know what it means to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. My hat goes off to the staff of the Irish Pub for keeping the masses of drunken hooligans in line while keeping the rivers of alcohol flowing. Happy St. Patrick’s day to all and to all watch out for the hangover.

The Costs of Drunk Driving

Written by Rick Canina

Ok, so I’ll admit, I’m usually not one to write opinion columns, but after seeing last week’s article on “The Economics of Drunk Driving”, I thought I would offer a second opinion on the matter…a more realistic one. The issue here is not whether driving while intoxicated is morally “right or wrong”. People are free to do what they want, but at the same time they should be aware of the consequences of their actions. To many of us, driving home drunk seems like the easiest option at the time, but in the long run, it is anything but ‘economical’. It carries severe and longstanding consequences including prosecution, incarceration, injury, and death.

In Florida, the formal penalties that come with a DUI conviction are severe. If you are stopped and suspected of a DUI and refuse the B.A.C. ‘Breathylizer’ test, you automatically lose your license for a year, regardless of what happens in your case. If you take the test and blow over a .08 (or a .02 if you are under 21), you’ll lose it for 6 months, guaranteed. If convicted of a DUI in court, you will be sentenced to a mandatory of ALL of the following: 6 months to 1 year probation (with 6 months possible jail time), an additional 6 months to 1 year suspension of your drivers license, a $250-500 fine, 50 hours of community service, completion of a DUI school, DUI counseling, completion of a Victims Awareness Class, and a 10 day impounding of your car. Lawyer fees for first offense DUI’s range from $2,000-4,000 dollars, regardless of the outcome of your case.
